The membership of the Council should be a combination of top current employers of Missouri S&T graduates, top corporate supporters, entrepreneurs, and other organizations that bring special expertise and perspectives to the Council. Candidates for membership will be in most cases organizations.
Nominations for membership will be solicited and accepted from current members, university staff, faculty and other interested individuals. The Vice Provost for Academic Affairs will make his annual appointments before July 1 of each year, with the members' terms beginning September 1. The Vice Provost for Academic Affairs may, however, appoint members at anytime on an individual basis.
Once an organization is selected then, an individual or two at an appropriate level of influence within the organization who has an association (alumnus/friend) with the University will be asked to serve on the organization's behalf. Special consideration will be given to accurately represent the diversity of the work place and the business world.
Members are appointed and serve at the request of the Vice Provost of Academic Affairs. In the cases where the organization appoints a liaison to the university, the two entities will work together to each other's mutual benefit to identify a member representative.
Individuals serve a three (3) year term and may be reappointed at the end of that term. Normally individuals may serve only two consecutive terms.
An organization's representative, upon leaving the Council is expected to make recommendations to the Vice Provost of Academic Affairs regarding his/her replacement by 1 May.
Since the Council only meets twice per year, attendance is very important. Any individual missing two consecutive meetings will be given the opportunity to rotate off the Council. Proxies are encouraged but do not fulfill the preceding guideline. Upon the third consecutive absence, the appointed member may be released from duty on the Council. The Vice Provost of Academic Affairs will make the determination as to whether a replacement is appointed.
The Council will consist of various teams that will address specific needs
of the institution and the industries it serves. Each member will be invited to
serve on a team. In addition, each member is expected to fulfill at least one
activity related to each of the three-fold mission statements between the
council meeting dates.
Leadership Guidelines
The executive volunteer leadership of the CDC shall be the Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, and the Team Leaders.
The Chair is appointed by the Vice Provost of Academic Affairs.
The Chair serves a two year, renewable term and the Vice Chair, Secretary, and Team Leaders serve one year, renewable terms.
The Chair of the CDC serves on the Board of Trustees during his/her tenure as Chair.
The Vice Chair, Secretary, and Team Leaders are appointed by the Chair in
coordination with the Missouri S&T Office of Development. Some Team
Leaders, by virtue of their task, may be asked to serve in other
capacities.
