What is Corporate Development Council?
Representatives from S&T’s top corporate partners are invited to participate in the S&T’s Corporate Development Council (CDC). CDC is led by a team of corporate and university officials and meets on campus twice a year. In conjunction with meetings, CDC sponsors student development events such as the Student Leadership Banquet and Student Etiquette Dinner. Other activities are sponsored throughout the year: speaking to classes, participating in mini-career fairs, the student leadership conference, various student recruiting events, and other activities. CDC members serve as a point of contact for their company and help facilitate linkages between their company and the university.
Mission: Develop relationships between corporations and S&T that will help S&T accomplish its four strategic objectives* and lead to a student who is better prepared to join the workforce.
*S&T Strategic Objectives:
Enrich the Student Experience
Promote student learning, achievement, teamwork, diversity, leadership, health, and recreation.
Broaden the Academic Portfolio and Increase Enrollment
Increase enrollment while maintaining quality by improving access and affordability, expanding diversity, and increasing retention.
Expand and Elevate Research Performance and Reputation
Enhance research activity and performance to establish status as a top 5 technological research university.
Identify Opportunities and Secure Resources from External Constituencies
Create opportunities and acquire resources from external constituencies.
CDC representatives are expected to:
Actively participate in CDC meetings
Interact with students wherever possible
Work to have your company participate in one other activity on campus each year (speaking or participating in events or classes like FE 10, open house, recruiting events in your area, externships, faculty or student visits to your facilities, etc.)
Seek financial support from your company for students at S&T. In addition to other support, each company is expected to contribute $500 annually to the CDC to cover the cost of the Student Leadership Banquet and other CDC events, such as the Student Etiquette Dinner, the Student Leadership Conference in January and other events involving students. The contribution covers two representatives from your company to participate in CDC events.
The next CDC meeting is scheduled for the afternoon of April 22, 2010 and the morning of April 23, 2010.
If you are interested in learning more about CDC, please contact Mary Bird, CDC Executive Director, at 1-800-392-4112 or Jon Schneider, CDC Chair, at 314-378-2195.
