Charitable IRA Rollover extended through 2009

The IRA rollover provision, originally enacted in 2006, permits donors age 70 1/2 or older to make tax-free charitable gifts, totaling up to $100,000 per year, directly from their IRAs to an eligible charitable organization, like Missouri S&T. The provision expires Dec. 31, 2009.

Charitable IRA Rollover requirements:
•  You must be 70 1/2  years of age
•  Tax benefits apply to direct rollovers up to $100,000 per year for tax years 2008-2009
•  The provision expires Dec. 31, 2009
•  The amount must be in the form of an outright gift; gifts for charitable gift annuities or charitable trusts do not qualify
•  Qualified charitable distributions must be direct rollovers from your IRA custodian to a charitable institution
•  No income tax charitable deduction is permitted for qualified charitable distributions
•  Qualified charitable distributions count against your minimum required distributions.

There are many ways to make a charitable gift to Missouri S&T. Please consult your tax or financial advisor about the benefits of the Charitable IRA Rollover. For more information call Missouri S&T’s development office at 800-392-4112 or email giving@mst.edu.

Change a life with a year-end gift
At the end of the year, many Missouri S&T alumni consider a gift to those students currently walking in their footsteps. Your gifts truly change the lives of these passionate and driven students, preparing them for the future. Very simply, without your support, many of our unique programs wouldn’t be possible.

Engineers Without Borders:
Your gift of $25,000 allows a team of 10 students to take the trip of a lifetime.  Imagine changing the lives of an entire community in a developing nation, while changing your perspective forever.

Hit the Ground Running:
Your gift of $10,000 allows five incoming freshmen to attend a three-week summer program to prepare them for the rigors of chemistry, math and English. Freshmen who attend Hit the Ground Running typically earn a GPA that is nearly 19 percent higher than their peers.

Jackling Introduction to Engineering Program:
Your gift of $5,000 attracts 10 high school juniors to campus to learn the basics of several engineering disciplines while enjoying life on campus. After attending this program more than 75 percent of these students enroll in Missouri S&T.

Expanding Your Horizons:
Your gift of $1,000 provides an opportunity for 7th- and 8th-grade girls to experience the fun and learn the importance of science, mathematics, engineering and technology, while encouraging them to pursue these subjects.
